Introduction

Technician Education plays a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the country. The technicians/supervisors played a role of bridge between engineers and skilled workforce.

Since, 1994, there was no public and private polytechnic institute in the entire district, Mardan, therefore, youth of the area were deprived from technical education and training. Hence, establishment of polytechnic institute was the dire needs and demand of the area.

In view of importance of technician education and training, the Government of NWFP (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) approved a scheme “Establishment of Polytechnic Institute at Takht Bhai, Mardan” in the year 1994-1995. The original plan was for introduction of two technologies ie Electrical and Electronics Technologies. Later on Computer Technology approved and financed by the Ministry of IT was also included in the plan. The institute was operational in the year 2005.

After severe earthquake in the region, demands for introduction of civil technology arises by the public, therefore, the institute administration after approval by the Minister for Technical Education introduced civil technology in the evening shift on no profit no loss basis in session 2011-12. The facility of civil technology was also extended in the regular morning shift since session 2015-16. Hence, presently, the institute offers four technologies in addition to short courses.

Besides, regular DAE programs, the institute also offers one Diploma in Information Technology, and other short courses like surveyor, welding, machinist, electrician, plumbing, construction and computer hardware etc.

The institute has land of 120 Kanal having a compact and beautiful building. It consist of administration block, classrooms, workshops, physics, chemistry and computer laboratories, library, dispensary, cafeteria, playgrounds, flourished lawns, and state of the art auditorium for indoors games and debate.

The institute is located at a distance of seventeen kilometer to the North-West of Mardan city adjacent to the Bhuddist Remains Takht Bhai. The Bhuddist Remains Takht Bhai had its own important history and its site had been declared a world prestigious heritage monument.
